From 2022, the cost of milk production in Russia will increase by 24%, and processing by 15-18%, depending on the category.
The Office of the Russian Prosecutor General will review information about producers who increase prices for dairy products. This was reported by The Moscow Times on Tuesday, November 12.
“Considering the special social importance of dairy products, the prosecutor’s office will provide a major assessment of the actions of business entities,” reported the Office of the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation.
The inspection was organized jointly by the Federal Antimonopoly Service, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation. If violations are found, “prosecutorial response measures” will be taken. The Russian department took special control of the situation in the dairy industry.
According to the National Union of Milk Producers of the Russian Federation, since 2022, the cost of milk production has increased by 24%, and processing by 15-18%, depending on the category. According to Rosstat, from January to October of this year, the retail price of milk increased by 12.41%.
Price tracking service Cenosaurus note that since the beginning of November last year, the cost of a 900 ml bottle of milk has increased by an average of 14.7%. In the first months of 2024, prices remained relatively stable, but since the fall, milk has risen in price by another 8.9%.
So, on November 12, the largest producer of drinking milk in Russia – the company Wimm-Bill-Dannowned by the American PepsiCo, reported retail chains that increased sales prices by 3.4%. Previously, another major player, the company Ekomilkretailers were also informed about the increase in selling prices of dairy products by 10%.
Previously, Russia was forced to import butter from the UAE and Turkey due to record price increases.

The Central Bank of the Russian Federation raised the main interest rate by 200 basis points simultaneously – to 21% per annum, which is the highest figure since February 2003.
