Funding of more than 700 million euros will be used to purchase additional Patriot and NASAMS launchers, as well as missiles and radar systems to strengthen the country’s air defense.
The Dutch government has announced an additional €716 million for defence. As Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans and State Secretary Gijs Tuinman said in a speech to the lower house of parliament, this amount is in addition to the planned investment of 2.4 billion. It was reported by European reality on Tuesday, November 12th.
The decision allows the Netherlands to achieve the NATO recommended level of defense spending of 2% of GDP.
The funds will be used to purchase additional Patriot and NASAMS launchers, as well as missile and radar systems to strengthen the nation’s air defense.
In addition, the purchase of anti-aircraft missiles, new launchers and electronic equipment for multi-purpose auxiliary vessels is expected.
Also, 117 million euros will be invested in innovation and digital projects, and 343 million euros in the provision of personnel and equipment.
In particular, €151 million will be used to strengthen national security and border controls, which includes support for the Royal Military Police.
Let’s remember that Sweden presented a defense bill, according to which the country’s military spending next year will increase to 2.4% of GDP or more.
The Bundeswehr will also need up to 35 thousand additional soldiers to meet NATO’s new defense requirements.
Earlier, the Netherlands announced the allocation of 209.5 million euros to Ukraine for the restoration of critical infrastructure.
