The Archbishop of Canterbury has been accused of trying to cover up a 40-year-old story of abuse in the church.
The spiritual head of the Church of England, Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, has been called to resign over an alleged cover-up of a minor sex scandal. Reuters reported this on Monday, November 11.
It is noted that three members of the Synod of the Church of England have initiated a petition for Welby’s resignation.
The hierarch is actively criticized for the fact that the church and he personally tried to hide the story of John Smith, the organizer of Christian children’s camps, who was accused of sexual and other types of abuse against in at least 115 men and young men in the 80s of the last century.
Meanwhile, Welby said he knew nothing of Smith’s criminal activities, but a group of bishops calling for the archbishop’s resignation are convinced that this is not true. The petition for the resignation of the head of the church has already collected about three thousand signatures.
It was previously reported that the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, secretly worked in a London hospital during the quarantine.
