The US Secretary of State believed in Trump’s first term that the president would not allow Putin to “ride Ukraine.”
Newly elected US President Donald Trump will take a more hawkish position on the Ukraine war after taking office than during the election campaign. Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said this at the Global Forum in New York, Fortune wrote on Monday, November 11.
“President Trump will not allow Vladimir Putin to ride in Ukraine. Stopping funding for Ukrainians will lead to this and his entire team will tell him about it,” he said.
Pompeo stressed that allowing this scenario “is not Trump’s style.” He also hopes that the politician will understand the need for a tough Western position in this war:
“It is absolutely critical that the West is seen to be standing up against thugs and horrible people [Путину] and does not allow evil to triumph.”
Let’s remember that Trump said he would not invite Pompeo and former Republican presidential candidate Nikki Galey to join his future administration.
