Newly elected President Donald Trump has confirmed his candidacy for the post of US Ambassador to the United Nations.
The winner of the presidential election nominated Elise Stefanik for US permanent representative to the UN. Trump noted that she will “fight for the interests of the United States of America in this position.” If formally nominated, Stefanik will require Senate confirmation. CNN and Politico reported this on November 11.
Elise Stefanik is a congresswoman from New York and the fourth-ranking Republican in the House of Representatives. She stood by Trump in 2019 during impeachment proceedings, and also spoke in his defense after losing the presidential election in 2020.
The level of support for Ukraine from Stefanik is assessed as low. This is stated on the website of the coalition of representatives of the US Republican Party “Republicans for Ukraine”.
Stefanik voted for the National Defense Authorization Act, which would have eliminated $300 million in aid to Ukraine, and did not support a supplemental appropriations bill for Ukraine this year.
Let us remind you that the newly elected President of the United States of America Donald Trump said that he decided not to invite former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and former US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Gailey to his team.
