France will soon send Ukraine a new batch of military aid.
The defense forces will receive SCALP cruise missiles and anti-aircraft missiles for Mistral MANPADS. The shipment of these weapons is already being prepared. French Defense Minister Sebastian Lecornu stated this in an interview with Le Journal du Dimanche.
“To allow Ukraine to carry out strikes along the front line, in recent days I have signed a new transfer of about ten SCALP missiles, as promised by French President Vladimir Zelensky,” he noted.
The official noted that in winter Russian strikes deep into Ukrainian territory could intensify. This is precisely why he called on partners to maintain assistance to Ukraine at a stable level. Because this assistance will also allow the Ukrainian authorities to consider political decisions when it decides to do so.
Lecornu added that France will continue the training program for 2 thousand Ukrainian military personnel trained on French equipment.
As you know, SCALP is the French version of the Storm Shadow cruise missiles, which are a joint development of Britain and France. The range of these missiles is 560 km. However, there is also an export version with a reduced range to 290 km and a smaller warhead.
These are air-to-surface guided missiles designed to hit stationary targets at long range. In particular, they can hit strategic targets located along the front line, such as command centers, ammunition depots and logistics hubs.
Let us remind you that the media reported that France plans to transfer from 12 to 20 units of Mirage 2000-5 fighters to Ukraine. These combat aircraft can be handed over between January 1 and March 30, 2025. universal.”
