In the Odessa region, as part of the decolonization process, the village of Pervomaiskoye, Razdelnyansky district, was renamed Gurovskoye – in honor of the soldiers of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
The press service of the Main Intelligence Directorate announced this today, November 8.
The corresponding decision was made in order to note the important contribution of the Ukrainian intelligence service to the protection of national interests from external threats, strengthening the defense capability of our state and honoring the victories of military intelligence officers, the statement says.
The Main Intelligence Directorate expressed gratitude to the Verkhovna Rada, the team of the Institute of National Memory of Ukraine and the community of this locality for the corresponding decision.
An explanation from the Institute of National Memory of Ukraine noted that during a full-scale war with Russia, GUR soldiers perform a complex of complex tasks – from strategic reconnaissance to combat operations to liberate Ukrainian lands, as well as special missions in occupied territories and behind enemy lines, which undermine the military potential of the state “aggressor,” noted the GUR.
It is noted that the name, which honors the state rank of the Military Intelligence of Ukraine, is not accidental for the Odessa region: it symbolizes the burden of historical traditions in the creation of national intelligence services.
It was in Odessa in 1886 that an outstanding military figure from the times of the Ukrainian Revolution of 1917-1921, Coronet General of the Army of the Ukrainian People’s Republic, one of the organizers of the military intelligence service of the State Center of the UPR in exile, Vsevolod Zmienko (1886-1938), was born.
Earlier, a street named after Zmienko appeared in the center of Odessa.
