A Russian agent was detained in Volyn, who was preparing a new series of Russian air strikes on the region.
He turned out to be a 30-year-old serviceman who served in the security unit of the local TCC, the SBU press center reports.
According to the case file:
- he was remotely recruited by a career employee of Russian military intelligence (better known as the game);
- the defendant tried to establish and transfer to the aggressor the locations of the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police. To accomplish this task, the agent drove around the area in a company car under the guise of business trips and recorded the location of military installations;
- he also tried to detect radar stations and anti-aircraft missile systems of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to carry out enemy attacks bypassing Ukrainian air defense;
- The agent forwarded the information received to his Russian curator through an anonymous chat in the messenger.
Military counterintelligence of the SBU identified the Russian agent, documented his crimes and detained him. At the same time, additional measures were taken to ensure the locations of the Defense Forces, the SBU noted.
During the searches, the detainee’s mobile phone was confiscated red-handed for his collaboration with the Russian Federation.
According to the investigation, the defendant came to the attention of the occupiers because of his relatives in Russia, with whom he maintained contact and shared anti-Ukrainian views, the SBU said.
The agent was informed of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code (high treason committed under martial law). The attacker is in custody and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
