The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine expressed a strong protest against the participation of representatives of the Russian occupation authorities from the annexed Crimea in the 12th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF12), taking place from November 4 to 8 in Cairo. The corresponding statement on Thursday, November 7, was published on the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“We emphasize that the participation of representatives of the occupation administration of the Russian Federation in events organized or taking place under the auspices of international organizations, especially organizations of the UN system, is a clear violation of international law and a number of resolutions of the UN General Assembly, in particular, 68/262 “Territorial integrity of Ukraine” “, notes the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The statement states that Russia is trying to use both international platforms and the territory of sovereign states, in this case the Arab Republic of Egypt, to try to legitimize the illegal occupation of Ukrainian territories, deliberately provoking of tension, including at the level of bilateral relations. .
It was also noted that, despite many insistences from the Ukrainian side, UN-Habitat never ensured proper control and determined a clear mechanism for registering participants in WUF12, thus allowing criminals to participate to the event and threatens the reputation of this important event. .
“We call on the UN Secretary-General and the leadership of UN-Habitat to take immediate steps to stop using the universal technical platform WUF12 and UN-Habitat in general for attempts to legitimize temporary occupation on the territories of Ukraine, as well as the spread of propaganda and lies by representatives of the occupation administration of the Russian Federation.”
We are convinced that those who committed such criminal negligence and allowed representatives of the Russian occupation administration to participate in WUF12, thereby showing disrespect for the Purposes and Principles of the UN Charter, will never earn the trust of member states of the UN, and therefore have the honor of working in the UN “Habitat or other bodies of the UN system,” Ukrainian diplomats called.
