Hungary has been living under a state of emergency for more than four and a half years. First, in March 2020, it was introduced due to COVID-19, and from May 2022, the state of emergency was continued due to the war in Ukraine.

The Hungarian Parliament has extended the state of emergency in the country due to the Russian-Ukrainian war for another 180 days, that is, until May 2025. Index and Teraz wrote this on Monday, November 4.

130 members of the National Assembly of Hungary voted in favor of continuing the state of emergency, against 49 deputies.

Without this decision, the state of emergency will end on November 19. However, in October, the government of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán submitted a proposal to the parliament to extend it.

The government justifies this by the fact that the war and humanitarian disaster in Ukraine, as well as its consequences for Hungary, especially in the provision of asylum, economy and energy, have not changed.

Critics point out that the special regime allows the government to circumvent laws and may limit or even suspend basic civil rights.

The DPRK’s Foreign Ministry released a statement calling the head of the Hungarian government a “role model.”

Earlier, Orban said the EU leadership has a “puppet government they want to impose on us,” hinting at Tys Peter Madjar’s new center-right, pro-European party. At the same time, the Hungarian Prime Minister did not provide any evidence of EU policies or statements to support such accusations.
