EU High Representative Josep Borrell and the European Commission congratulated Maia Sandu on her victory in the second round of the presidential elections in Moldova. This was stated in a joint statement by the High Representative of the EU and the EC, the full text of which is published on the website of the European External Action Service.
“The EU warmly welcomes Maia Sandu to her second term as President of the Republic of Moldova. We note the (efforts of) the Moldovan authorities to successfully hold the elections despite unprecedented interference from Russia, including the use of vote-buying schemes and disinformation. These hybrid attempts are aimed at destroying the country’s democratic institutions and its European path,” the statement said.

“The recent referendum confirmed the commitment of the Moldovan people to the European path and to further strengthen our close ties. The EU will continue to work with the President and the Moldovan authorities to promote further reforms and strengthen stability and development of the country on its path to the EU, including the use of the recently announced Growth Plan in Moldova,” the statement said.
