Russia began withdrawing military equipment from the Finnish border after the announcement of Finland’s entry into NATO.
It is assumed that equipment and soldiers will be transferred to Ukraine, Yle reports.
The network published satellite images, which recorded the Russian military unit 34,667, located in the village of Alakurtti in the Murmansk region. It is approximately 70 km from the Finnish border. According to journalists, more than 100 pieces of equipment, including dozens of armored personnel carriers, have been removed from the Russian base there since mid-May.
“At least a third or even half of the approximately 2,000 soldiers left the base at once,” the publication said.
Finnish military expert Marko Eklund suggested that these Russian soldiers be sent to fight in Ukraine.
Note that the 80th separate motorized rifle brigade was deployed in military unit 34667. Russia has not officially announced the removal of equipment and soldiers from Alakurtti.
It will be recalled that on July 5, the Foreign Ministers of Finland and Sweden Pekka Haavisto and Ann Linde signed protocols on joining NATO.
