Budapest reiterated that they “fear the start of a third world war,” with Ukraine’s entry into the Alliance apparently “leading the way.”
Hungary and Ukraine are currently negotiating a comprehensive cooperation agreement between the countries, but the clause on Ukraine’s membership in NATO is “definitely not there.” This was said by the representative of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry, Mate Patzolay, Magyar Nemzet reports.
The Hungarian official traditionally said that an important part of a comprehensive cooperation agreement with Ukraine should be “the restoration of the rights of the Hungarian minority.”
“During the negotiations, we have always made it clear on the Ukrainian side that the desire of Ukraine to join NATO cannot be the point of this agreement,” the representative of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry hastened to make sure.
The department official added that the Hungarian government’s position on Ukraine’s accession to NATO has not changed. People in Budapest are inclined to think that such a merger could “lead” to the outbreak of a third world war.
We remind you that Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó spoke Russian in his speech at the Minsk Conference on Eurasian Security in Belarus.
