Currently, diplomatic relations between the countries are at an all-time low, Berbock said.
German Foreign Minister Annalena Bärbock announced on Thursday that three Iranian consulates will be closed in Germany in response to the execution of German-Iranian citizen Jamshid Sharmad. This was reported by DW on Thursday, October 31.
Consulates are located in Frankfurt, Hamburg and Munich.
“We have repeatedly and unequivocally made it clear to Tehran that the execution of a German citizen would have serious consequences,” Baerbock said.
Baerbock also added that Germany will request pan-European sanctions against those involved in Sharmad’s death penalty.
He condemned Iran for playing hostage politics, accusing Tehran of seeking to use Germany’s support for Israel in the Middle East conflict as justification for killing Sharmad.
“The fact that this killing occurred against the backdrop of recent events in the Middle East indicates that a dictatorial, unjust regime. [Ирана]… is not acting in accordance with normal diplomatic logic,” Burbock added.
He said that the current diplomatic relations between the countries are at the lowest level.
Because of this, 32 employees of the consulate will lose their right to live in Germany and must leave the country if they do not have German citizenship.
Let’s remember that earlier in Iran, the famous rapper Toumaj Salehi was sentenced to death on charges of supporting mass protests against the government.
In January, Iran executed four men accused of planning sabotage at a defense plant and possible links to the Israeli Mossad.
