The SBU reports the detention of an FSB agent and his henchman in the Chernivtsi region, who were spying on trains with military equipment.
The detainees are members of the regional center of the “democracy” movement, who spied on the Defense Forces and tried to prevent mobilization in the western region of Ukraine, the SBU press center reports.
According to the case materials, these men secretly recorded the directions of movement of the railway trains of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and publicly called on those liable for military service to evade conscription, the report says.
According to the investigation:
- A 41-year-old local resident, a former member of the banned Communist Party of Ukraine, came to the attention of the FSB back in 2015. After the full-scale invasion, he was finally recruited and tasked with forming his own intelligence network in Bukovina;
- he spread Kremlin narratives, denied the legitimacy of state power in Ukraine and tried to create alternative “local self-government bodies”;
- also, on the instructions of the curators, the defendant encouraged local men of military age to hide from the TCC and spied on the routes of movement of the rolling stock of the Armed Forces of Ukraine;
- To carry out a hostile task, the agent recruited a 35-year-old local unemployed man, whom he supposedly could get out of conscription.
The security service gradually documented the criminal actions of both defendants and detained them. During the searches, mobile phones were confiscated from the attackers red-handed, the SBU said.
It is noted that investigators informed the FSB agent of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 111 (high treason committed under martial law), and his henchman – under Part 3 of Art. 114-2 (unauthorized dissemination of information about the movement, movement or location of the Armed Forces of Ukraine) of the Criminal Code.
Both are in custody. The investigation is ongoing.
