The SBU today, October 30, announced the detention of a 72-year-old mechanical scientist from Kharkov, who, at the request of the Russians, developed drawings for improving kamikaze drones of the “Shahed” type. In particular, he worked on modernizing engines and ejection installations.
Pictures published by the SBU indicate that in Russia, in particular, they are working to reduce the cost of launching suicide bombers, writes Defense Express.
The report also released a photo of the installation itself, which is apparently a pneumatic launch system. It is made on a trailer, and the trusses can be folded or removed in traveling mode, the publication notes.
It is noted that it is precisely this launching design that should replace the current launching mechanism, which consists of a simple holder and a rocket accelerator.

And thus, obviously, Russia plans to achieve cost savings, since the costs of launching Shahed-136 will be lower, and the dependence on the supply of such solid propellant boosters will be eliminated, the publication notes.
It is noted that the use of precisely such primitive installations by the Russians is evidenced by the first detailed photo of the “Shahed” position during the war, which appeared only in October of this year.
These launch sites are located approximately 200 km from the borders and front line.
Attention is drawn to the fact that Russia could not independently develop such a launcher and a 72-year-old mechanical scientist from Kharkov, who personally knew the general director of one of the Russian factories that produces units for UAVs, was involved in the work, the publication notes. “And given that aiding the aggressor state is punishable by up to 12 years, the collaborator will obviously spend the rest of his life in prison.
