A woman tried to illegally smuggle into Ukraine a commercial shipment of jewelry worth about 2.4 million hryvnias. This was reported by the press service of the State Customs Service on Wednesday, October 30.
A passenger on the Poznan-Sumy bus took 255 pieces of gold and silver jewelry with an estimated value of nearly 2.4 million hryvnias in his personal belongings.
When imported into the territory of Ukraine, such cargo must be declared in writing, while paying customs duties. However, the citizen neglected his duty.
Volyn customs officials at the Yagodin checkpoint, where the bus was traveling, temporarily seized all the “treasure” weighing 1.5 kg. A protocol on violation of customs rules was issued and proceedings began.
Non-declaration of goods brought to the customs border of Ukraine by citizens entails a fine of 30 percent of the value of these goods.
The limit of goods allowed for import by citizens without a written declaration and appropriate taxation (except for excisable goods) is up to 50 kg, with a value equal to 500 euros per person.
