The Russian service of Radio Liberty published footage from the morning of October 30 showing smoke rising from a military training center in Chechnya.
The head of the region, Ramzan Kadyrov, announced a Ukrainian attack. He also claimed that the strike allegedly killed Ukrainian prisoners who were used to cover the “university.”
There is no evidence of this. The use of prisoners of war as human shields is expressly prohibited by the Geneva Convention.
Ukrainian media, citing intelligence sources, wrote about another version of the attack: it was allegedly related to internal conflicts in Russia. They say that the drone was launched from the territory of neighboring Dagestan, and the attack is related to the conflict around the Wildberries marketplace.
There was no official comment on this in Ukraine.
The “Russian Special Forces University” was founded in Gudermes in 2013, and since this year it has been named after Vladimir Putin. According to Chechen authorities, since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, thousands of people have trained there and subsequently gone to war.
