The website of the Georgian Election Commission reported that based on the results of processing ballots at 99% of polling stations, the pro-Russian Georgian Dream party received 54.24% of the votes.
Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili called on the West to put “intense pressure” on the ruling Georgian Dream party to “reconsider the election results and return the stolen votes.” Zurabishvili said this on Tuesday, October 29, in an interview with the Georgian service of Radio Liberty.
He noted that, according to preliminary estimates, about 300 thousand votes were rigged in favor of the Georgian Dream.
According to Zurabishvili, now a lot depends on the reaction of the Western partners, that is, how strong their pressure will be on the authorities.
“If there is no pressure, it means that the West has not done everything possible to try to keep Georgia in a western direction and in a European perspective,” the president said.
Earlier, the opposition Georgian political forces announced that they do not recognize the results of the country’s elections and announced protests.
Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said the country’s government will be confirmed, despite the opposition’s refusal to recognize the results of the parliamentary elections.
The elections in Georgia are called historic because their result may indicate either the future integration of the state with the EU or rapprochement with Russia. Athletistic wrote in detail about the pre-election situation in Georgia.
