A memorandum of understanding between France and Portugal that “provides for the acquisition of up to 36 guns” is part of a strategy to renew the army.
Portugal aims to acquire up to 36 Caesar guns by 2034, according to an agreement signed this weekend with France. Le Figaro writes about it.
France and Portugal signed a protocol for the acquisition of Caesar’s guns.
The Portuguese Ministry of Defense reported that the purchase of the guns was part of a strategy to modernize the army.
“The goal is to equip all Portuguese artillery with this equipment,” a ministry spokesman said, without specifying the value of the deal.
Caesar is a mobile artillery system capable of firing 6 shells at a distance of 40 km in less than a minute. It has been in service with the French army since 2008.
We remind you that Portugal donated six Russian Ka-32 firefighting helicopters to Ukraine.
Earlier, Portugal announced that aid to Ukraine from Lisbon will reach 220 million euros in 2024, and plans to provide the same amount for Ukraine in 2025.
