A new ban has been introduced in Afghanistan aimed at “fighting vices and promoting virtues.”
The Taliban forbid women to talk to other women. The new ban was announced on Sunday, October 27, by the Taliban’s Minister of Welfare, Khalid Hanafi, writes BILD.
According to him, the ban applies to adult women.
“Women are forbidden to allow other adult women to hear their voices. Therefore, women must now refrain from even reading the Qur’an aloud in the presence of other women,” he said.
BILD recalled that after the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan in August 2021, women were banned from receiving education, traveling without a man and talking in public, especially with men. They also cannot visit parks, swim or play any sports. They were also banned from going to beauty salons, and the law to eliminate violence against women was repealed.
“Women are often beaten and jailed in public for ‘un-Islamic behavior’—anything can fall under this ‘charge’,” the publication added.
Let’s remember that last year in Afghanistan, women were banned from visiting a national park. The Taliban minister said that “outings are not compulsory for women.”
Before this, the Taliban ordered the closure of all beauty salons in Afghanistan.
And since the spring before last, Afghan women can only leave the house if they have “important things,” and only in a burqa, otherwise they must stay indoors.
