The Lithuanian Foreign Ministry reacted sharply to the visit of Antonio Guterres to Russia for the BRICS summit, where he shook hands with the initiator of the war against Ukraine, Vladimir Putin.
Lithuania will not object if United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres resigns. The country’s Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis wrote this on Friday, October 25, on the social network. X.
“If Antonio Guterres decides to resign, Lithuania will not try to prevent him from doing so,” Landsbergis wrote.
Earlier in the day, Landsbergis posted a photo of Guterres shaking hands with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin. The head of the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry left the caption “This is the UeNd” under the photo, which can be literally translated as “This is the end of the UN.”
Even earlier, on October 22, Gabrielius Landsbergis shared with his X the reaction of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry to Guterres’ visit to Russia. The head of Lithuanian diplomacy commented on this news: “UNacceptable” (“Unacceptable”, a play on words, where the first letters mean UN in English).
Let’s recall that on Friday the media reported that President Vladimir Zelensky rejected the visit of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres to Kyiv.
