The country already has a ban on pages on social networks for children under the age of 13. However, in practice this rule is not met.
The Norwegian government intends to introduce a ban on the use of social networks by children under the age of 15. The Guardian reported this.
It was noted that in this way the leadership of the Labor Party aims to fight the “power of algorithms”, which motivates children to a “one-sided view of reality”, and also to help parents who “work hard to protect their children, but cannot tell them a clear “no”.
In Norway, there is already a ban on having pages on social networks for those under 13 years old. Moreover, more than half of 9-year-olds, 58% of 10-year-olds and 72% of 11-year-olds use social media.
Authorities plan to introduce additional precautions to prevent children from circumventing age restrictions. It is planned to change the law on personal data, according to which users of social networks must be 15 years old to consent to the processing of personal information. In addition, the government intends to develop a special age verification mechanism.
We remind you that in Florida, America, children will be prohibited from using social networks. The ban applies to everyone under 14.
