From the spring of 2025, the German Boeing P-8 Poseidon anti-submarine reconnaissance aircraft will be transferred to an air base in Scotland to monitor the movements of Russian submarines in the North Atlantic.
Britain and Germany agreed to strengthen military cooperation. The countries will develop new advanced weapons under an agreement signed in London on Wednesday. This was reported by the Associated Press on Wednesday, October 23.
British Defense Minister John Gealey, in a joint press conference with German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, emphasized the need to intensify joint work in the world, which “has become dangerous.”
Pistorius said NATO allies are committed to strengthening their defense and deterrence capabilities.
“We must not take security in Europe for granted. Russia is waging war against Ukraine, has greatly increased its weapons production and has repeatedly carried out hybrid attacks on our partners in Eastern Europe,” said Pistorius.
One of the main points of the agreement is that from the spring of 2025, the German Boeing P-8 Poseidon anti-submarine reconnaissance aircraft will be transferred to an air base in Scotland to monitor the movements of Russian submarines in the North Atlantic from there, writes Bild.
In addition, Germany will take part in protecting communication cables under the Atlantic Ocean. And the German arms corporation Rheinmetall will build a new plant in the UK for the production of large-caliber weapons.
The countries will prioritize the development of long-range strike weapons with a range beyond Britain’s Storm Shadow missiles.
It was previously reported that the UK and Germany will sign a historic defense pact that will bring the Kingdom’s military ties closer to the European Union.
Ukraine and Germany signed an agreement on immediate actions to strengthen the Ukrainian air defense system.
