UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres arrived in the Russian city of Kazan on October 23 for the BRICS summit.
Tatar officials met him at the airport.
According to Guterres spokesman Farhan Haq, at the summit he will confirm “his well-known position on Ukraine.” Haque stressed that the crisis must be resolved on three grounds: international law, the UN Charter and resolutions. Also, Guterres, according to his deputy, will “continue efforts” to resume safe navigation in the Black Sea.
The UN Secretary General is due to meet with world leaders, including Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
The summit of the heads of state of the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, UAE, Iran, Egypt and Ethiopia) continues from October 22 to 24.
Let us remind you that Guterres refused to go to the first World Summit at the invitation of Ukraine.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry criticized the visit.
BRICS is an interstate association that includes nine large countries of the world that are not Western countries. The organization was created to strengthen economic cooperation; now it is more often referred to as a “geopolitical bloc.” At the same time, the association is largely informal: it does not have a charter, a general budget, or a secretariat.
