Texas saw record voter participation, especially in areas that tend to vote Democratic.
More than 19 million US citizens voted early in the November 5 presidential election. Good Morning America reports.
On October 22, approximately 7.1 million people voted after physically coming to the polls. Other votes were cast by mail-in ballots.
One of Georgia’s key states is seeing record turnout. More than 1.84 million state residents, or about one in four registered voters, voted early.
More than 1.74 million of them voted at early voting locations instead of by mail.
In Texas, when early voting began on October 21 for the presidential election, voter participation reached record levels, especially in areas that tend to vote Democratic. 843 thousand voters voted, which is 4.5% of those registered.
Hill notes that the increased turnout was most pronounced in areas that traditionally had higher support for the Democratic Party (Texas as a whole has traditionally voted for the Republican Party, – ed.).
Participation today was higher than during the 2020 campaign, when about 755,000 state residents showed up at the polls on the first day of early voting.
It was previously reported that Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris is leading Republican candidate Donald Trump in three key states.
