Donald Trump, a candidate from the US Republican Party, has filed a complaint against the UK Labor Party, accusing it of “illegal foreign contributions” to support Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign, the Financial Times writes.
Trump’s lawyers claim that Labor has traveled to the US in recent months to consult with Harris. Such support constitutes a “foreign contribution” that violates U.S. campaign finance laws, Republican lawyers say. This sentiment was also propagated by Trump’s main sponsor, Elon Musk.
“The British are leaving!” is the title of the Trump campaign’s statement announcing the complaint. In the statement itself and the text of the complaint, the authors recall the events of the War of Independence of 1775-1783, in which the American colonies fought the British army.
The far left Labor Party inspires Kamala’s dangerous liberal policies and rhetoric. Over the last few weeks, it has been recruiting and sending members to campaign for Kamala in critical states in an attempt to influence our elections, the statement said.
The Trump campaign implies that the Labor Party pays for the work of its volunteers in the US elections, which is prohibited by American laws.
According to the BBC, Labor members went to the United States as private individuals and are working for free, and this is not prohibited by law.
In the test of the complaint, the Trump campaign asks the Federal Election Commission to immediately investigate “gross foreign interference in the 2024 Presidential election in the form of apparent illegal foreign campaign contributions made by the United Kingdom Labor Party.”
In the complaint, the Trump campaign cites reports from several leading U.S. and British newspapers about Labor’s help from Kamali Harris and a post by senior Labor Party official Sofia Patel on Linkdean – “now apparently deleted,” as the authors of the complaint write.
They provide a screenshot of the post, which they took not directly from Linkedin, but from a tweet from a popular British political account on the X network.
In it, Patel allegedly announced a call for volunteers to fill the vacant 10 of 100 positions on the team going to work in four states: North Carolina, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Virginia. The ten Patel was looking for needed to go to North Carolina.
Applications in the screenshot of the post are asked to be sent to an email address whose name translates as “Labour for Harris.”
