The current leader of the country receives 41.98% of the votes, and his opponent – 26.31% of the votes. Now they will compete in the second round, which will take place on November 3.
Incumbent President Maia Sandu and ex-Prosecutor General Alexandre Stoianoglo will enter the second round of presidential elections in Moldova. This is proof of the preliminary voting results released on Monday, October 21, by the country’s Central Election Commission.
After processing 98.38% of the voting protocols (1.52 million votes), Sandu got 41.98% of the votes, Stoianoglo – 26.31% of the votes. Now the second round is supposed to take place on 3rd November.
Sandu believes that there is no fair political process in elections and referendums in Moldova. He said in a speech at the headquarters of his campaign, European Pravda reports.
Sandu says authorities have evidence of large-scale vote buying.
“We have clear evidence that these criminal groups wanted to buy 300,000 votes,” he said, calling it “fraud on an unprecedented scale” but not saying vote buying had taken place.
Sandu stressed that the “unprecedented attack on freedom and democracy” has lasted for several months, and that criminal gangs and foreign forces are behind it, “attacking our country with tens of millions of euros, lies and propaganda.”
50.08% of the voters voted for the inclusion of the European vector in the Constitution, 49.92% voted against it after processing 98.42% of the voting protocols (1.46 million votes).
The previous results of the referendum, which appeared late in the evening of October 20, indicate that the residents of Moldova, without taking into account the diaspora, do not support the arrangement of the European path in the constitution.
After counting data from 85% of the precincts, support for a “yes” answer was slightly over 45%.
The referendum, held simultaneously with the presidential elections, was placed by the authorities and by an absolute majority of the parties participating in the election process as a vote for or against Moldova’s intention to join the EU.
Almost 1.6 million voters took part in the presidential elections, including about 240 thousand abroad. Voting continues at polling stations in the US and Canada.
As we have already written, presidential elections and a constitutional referendum on Moldova’s accession to the EU were held in the Republic of Moldova.
