Austin plans to discuss Ukraine’s weapons needs and how the United States can support the Ukrainian Armed Forces next year.
The head of the US Department of Defense, Lloyd Austin, arrived on a visit to Kyiv on Monday, October 21. CNN reported this.
It was noted that Austin arrived in Kyiv “as the future of US aid to Ukraine depends on the inevitable US presidential election, and Russia continues to make small but consistent gains on the front.”
Austin plans to meet with President Volodymyr Zelensky and Defense Minister Rustem Umerov to discuss Ukraine’s weapons needs and how the United States will continue to support the Ukrainian Armed Forces next year.
“The minister’s visit will also be a moment for him to step back and look at the ‘arc’ of US-Ukraine relations over the past two and a half years of war,” the senior defense official said.
We remind you that the last time Austin visited Kyiv was on November 20, 2023, where he met Zelensky.
On October 3, the US and Ukrainian defense ministers discussed the situation on the battlefield and Ukraine’s needs for weapons and military equipment.
