Austin said he had just concluded a day of healthy discussion with Ukrainian leaders and sent an important message: The United States stands with Ukraine and will support Kyiv.
I just finished a day of healthy discussion with Ukrainian leaders and sent an important message: The United States stands with Ukraine and we will stand with it for the long haul. This battle matters to the free world. The United States will always stand on the side of democracy as Ukrainians continue to demonstrate firmness and strength in the face of Putin’s aggression. We have brought together allies and partners to stand up to Russia and make progress toward a brighter future, because that’s what American leadership is about. And our resolve is stronger than ever,” Lloyd Austin said in a video message.
Austin plans to meet in Kyiv with President Volodymyr Zelensky and Defense Minister Rustem Umerov to discuss Ukraine’s weapons needs and how the United States can continue to support the Ukrainian Armed Forces over the next year.
