The military warned it was attacking the quasi-bank and accused it of financing terrorist deals.
The Israel Defense Forces carried out strikes in Lebanon on branches of the financial association Al-Qard Al-Hassan (Qard al-Hasan), which is linked to the terrorist group Hezbollah. Explosions also occurred near Lebanon’s only commercial airport. The Times of Israel reported this on Sunday, October 20.
The publication writes that these financial institutions are accused of receiving funds from Iran, which supports Hezbollah and Hamas.
Lebanon’s official national news agency reported eleven strikes in the southern suburbs of Beirut, many of which targeted the Qard al-Hasan financial association.
A strike fell on the territory of Beirut airport, NNA reports. Planes continued to fly despite smoke in the area, an AFP reporter from the scene reported. The airport is operating as usual.
Attacks were also reported at Qard al-Hasan branches in Hermel, Riyaq and Baalbek in the Bekaa Valley region of eastern Lebanon, about 100 km from the Israeli border.
It should be noted that the head of the press service of the Israel Defense Forces, Daniel Hagari, on the evening of October 20 called on Lebanese residents living near Hezbollah’s financial facilities to evacuate immediately. He said that the IDF intends to strike the banks and financial vaults of the militants in different parts of Lebanon.
Qard al-Hasan Association was established in 1983 and is a non-profit financial institution. Israel says Hezbollah uses the organization to pay its fighters and support civilians while avoiding sanctions.
The United States imposed sanctions against Qard al-Hassan in 2021. The organization has 31 branches in Lebanon, including in Beirut and the Bekaa, officials said.
Let’s remember that a week ago Hezbollah attacked Israel with a new drone. He destroyed the warning system and hit the military assembly area. About 67 people were injured in the attack and four others died.
