NATO rejected the proposal of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to replace US troops in Europe with units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine after the war.
Such an idea is considered “inappropriate” and “even harmful” in the North Atlantic Alliance. It looks like a “political pass by Donald Trump” if he wins the US elections. At the same time, the initiative itself is considered a “generous offer” in NATO. President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Gerry Connolly stated this in an interview with Radio Liberty.
It looks like a political pass by Donald Trump if he won the election. And for those of us who fight for Ukraine in the US Congress, we don’t need to hear that. The US needs to be in Europe,” Connolly said.
The official believes that there is no need to “encourage the United States to leave Europe – because this is not in the interests of Ukraine and not in the interests of its allies.” He added that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin would definitely welcome such a development of events.
As you know, American troops in Europe are stationed in Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Spain, Poland and Romania. The total number of US troops in Europe is now about 100 thousand military personnel.
Let us recall that on October 16, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky publicly presented a victory plan consisting of several points. It consists, in particular, of immediately inviting Ukraine to NATO.
