The White House said Biden wanted Ukraine to win and pledged to capitalize on the effort. However, the issue of the invitation to NATO has not yet been resolved.
There is no consensus among NATO members about inviting Ukraine to NATO. At the same time, the United States wants to achieve from other partners “the same urgency and contribution” in helping Ukraine as the United States. This was said on Thursday, October 17, by a senior official of the US presidential administration in a briefing about Biden’s planned visit to Germany.
“There are ongoing discussions among NATO members about the invitation. There is no consensus yet on whether to offer an invitation to Ukraine. But, as you know, at the NATO summit just a few months ago – in July, in the middle of July – all 32 members of the Alliance confirmed that Ukraine is on an irreversible path to NATO membership. So the question is the tactics of how to encourage that path and how to reach consensus on the next steps,” said the officer.
He added that “President Biden wants Ukraine to win, and we will make sure that this effort is well resourced.”
“That is why the President called for a meeting at the level of the head of the Defense Contact Group with Ukraine, or the so-called Ramstein Summit – and that meeting will take place very soon – to produce the same need of prompt action and investment from some of our allies and partners.” so we can continue this,” he said.
A Biden administration official noted that there is now “an active conversation going on about various elements” of the Ukrainian Victory Plan. In particular, he mentioned work on the mineral issue, but did not elaborate.
He emphasized that the United States wants Ukraine to win the war with Russia. “There’s a lot at stake,” he said.
“The urgency of the moment is certainly recognized, and that is why the President led this effort to provide Ukraine with the necessary equipment and, in fact, take seriously all the elements that the Ukrainians propose and cooperate them in a strategy to ensure their victory in this war.” – said the presidential administration.
They also confirmed that Biden will meet with Chancellor Olaf Scholz, French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Friday in Germany.
We remind you that inviting Ukraine to NATO is the first point of the Victory Plan, presented by President Vladimir Zelensky.
