The total amount of military aid Australia has provided to Ukraine since the start of the war has exceeded $1.3 billion.
Australia will transfer 49 of its obsolete M1A1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine as part of a new military aid package worth $245 million. This was reported by the press service of the Australian government on Thursday, October 17.
“This assistance package, worth approximately $245 million, will improve the firepower and mobility of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and complement the support provided by partners to the Ukrainian armored brigades,” the statement said.
The total amount of military assistance Australia has provided to Ukraine since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion has exceeded $1.3 billion, and the total amount of support has exceeded $1.5 billion.
In January 2022, it was announced that Australia’s M1A1 Abrams tanks would be replaced by M1A2 tanks. To support the transition, the Australian Army will retain a small number of M1A1 tanks to facilitate the introduction of the new M1A2 fleet.
Let’s recall that in July Australia announced a record package of military aid to Ukraine.
