Harpy drones are produced in Chinese factories in cooperation with Russian defense companies.
The US Treasury Department has imposed sanctions against a network of companies from China and Russia involved in the development and production of long-range Harpy drones used by the Russian Federation in the war against Ukraine. The press service of the department reported this on Thursday, October 17.
“Today, OFAC is imposing sanctions against three entities and one individual for their involvement in the development and production of the Russian Harpy long-range attack unmanned aerial vehicle,” the statement said.
The Harpy project was designed and developed by specialists from China. These drones were manufactured in factories in China in cooperation with Russian defense companies before they entered the Russian Federation and were then used in Ukraine.
The American sanctions were imposed against the Chinese company Xiamen Limbach Aircraft Engine Co., Ltd., which produces the L550E engine for Harpy drones. The list of restrictions also includes the organization Redlepus Vector Industry Shenzhen Co Ltd, as well as the Russian company Vector Trading House and its director Artem Yamshchikov.
As reported, Russia has begun production of a new long-range attack drone called the Harpy-A1. For this, a Chinese engine and parts are used.
The State Department said China is providing “very significant” assistance to Russia to bolster the Kremlin’s military machine in exchange for secret Russian military submarine and missile technology.
