In August of this year, Sergei Salavatov, who had connections with DPR militants, was appointed commander of the 107th separate TRO battalion.
This is stated in the hromadske investigation.
Journalists found that in 2014, Salavatov, who lived in Kramatorsk, actively disseminated pro-Russian posts and went to the so-called referendum to support the fake “DPR.”
In the same year, he communicated with an employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the DPR Mezhlum Damirchan, a militant in the Russian formation Rusich Anton Kalchenko and Alexander Alekseev, who was involved in the creation of the people’s militia. Now Sergei Salavatov claims that he does not remember any of these people.
In 1997, Salavatov received a sentence for murder, and in 2019, a criminal case for keeping an ammunition storage house.
Despite this, he was able to build a military career in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. At the end of 2015, Salavatov joined the MTR, and in 2024 he became a battalion commander of the Troops Operation. By the time Salavatov was appointed battalion commander, the command did not know about his possible involvement in the “DPR.” After the journalists contacted him, the man passed the polygraph, and, according to him, quite successfully.
The TRO command, responding to our request, noted that checking individuals when making personnel decisions is not within the authority of commanders of military units. This means that no one should have checked Salavatov if it weren’t for our appeal,” hromadske journalists note.
