The UN Human Rights Office has confirmed that Russia systematically uses various forms of torture, including sexual violence, against Ukrainian prisoners of war.
The High Representative of the European Union condemned the Russian army’s execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war. This was stated in a statement by the EU Diplomatic Service on Wednesday, October 16.
They noted that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, 177 prisoners of war have died in Russian captivity.
“The European Union strongly condemns these killings, which are yet another horrific example of Russia’s mistreatment of the Ukrainian people, and the fact that Russian public figures are publicly calling for the killing of prisoners of Ukrainian war and glorifying these executions while calling for more, once again exposing the true nature of the Kremlin regime,” the statement said.
The EU also condemned the lack of access for prisoners “to the outside world” and the denial of humanitarian access to independent observers.
“The EU reaffirms its firm commitment to bring to justice all perpetrators and accomplices of Russia’s war crimes against Ukraine,” the Diplomatic Service emphasized.
According to the report of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, released on October 1, 2024 (we are talking about the period from June 1 to August 31, 2024), the torture of captured military personnel of Ukrainians is “massive and systematic” and occurs with the consent of the Russian leadership.
We remind you that on October 1 it became known that the Russian military shot 16 Ukrainian prisoners of war in the direction of Pokrovsky.
Law enforcement officials have information about the execution of 102 Ukrainian prisoners of war on the battlefield by the Russian military.
