The head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, following a discussion about the situation before the election with EU foreign ministers, said that the situation in Georgia is “more depressing” now than in Moldova.
Prime Minister of Georgia and head of the election headquarters of the ruling Georgian Dream party, Irakli Kobakhidze, responded to the words of the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, about the “depressing” state of Georgian diplomacy. Georgia Online reported this on Tuesday, October 15.
“These are temporary statements, so you should not pay attention to them – these elections will take place, the war in Ukraine will end, and after that the relationship with the European Union will reset,” said Kobakhidze .
According to him, the comparison of Georgia and Moldova is “dust in the eye,” because “there is no political or media pluralism in Moldova.”
“From an economic point of view, we have increased the difference between the economies of Georgia and Moldova by 9 billion, which, in particular, is due to the fact that we, unlike Moldova, have very strong institutions of state,” he added.
Earlier, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said that the pre-election situation in Georgia was more depressing than in Moldova.
According to him, Moldova is making significant progress towards joining the European Union, despite growing pressure from Russia. In Georgia the picture is even more depressing. The actions, statements and election promises of the ruling party in Georgia are “moving the country away from the path to joining the EU and implying authoritarianism.”
Borrell added that it is necessary to wait for the results of the upcoming parliamentary elections in Georgia, which, according to him, will be a decisive test for democracy and the country’s path to EU membership.
Let’s recall that earlier the European Union decided to stop high-level meetings with representatives of the Georgian government in response to anti-European actions and rhetoric of the ruling party.
