In the Donetsk region, five members of an armed gang who committed a brutal attack on a couple and took their property worth more than UAH 2.3 million were sentenced to 15 years. The court also decided to confiscate property worth more than UAH 8 million. This was reported by the press service of the Donetsk regional prosecutor’s office on Tuesday, October 15.
Thus, residents of the cities of Torez and Novogrodovka were accused of illegal deprivation of a person’s liberty, theft, carjacking committed by an organized group, and banditry (part 3 of article 146, part 4 of article 187, article 257 , part 3 of article 289 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
In April 2014, a resident of the occupied city of Torez created a gang to carry out armed attacks on citizens. He was the first to take part in the realization of his own son’s criminal intentions. They, together with three other accomplices, dressed in camouflage clothing and balaclavas, burst into the territory of the businessman’s office and beat him on the head and body with the butt of a Kalashnikov assault rifle. After that, they tied their hands with plastic ties and, threatening them with shots in the air above their heads, demanded money.
After taking cash, antiques and jewelry, including gold bars and coins, as well as office equipment and a Mitsubishi L200, the attackers returned home and took a Porsche Carrera from the garage. In addition, they hit the prisoner’s wife on the head with a machine gun, tied her up and took valuables from the rooms of the house. After that, they took the man outside the town, where they left him.
The victims suffered material damage worth almost UAH 2.3 million.
