The father of a jailed opposition activist says authorities are ignoring his requests for meetings and letters.
The oppositionist and one of the leaders of the Belarusian protests, Maria Kolesnikova, imprisoned by the Belarusian regime, has been incommunicado for 18 months. His family didn’t know what was wrong with him. This was reported by the Belarusian service of Radio Liberty on Monday, October 14.
It is worth noting that his family’s last conversation with Maria was 18 months ago. After that, the connection was broken, and since then the only news came from the words of other prisoners who were in the same Gomel women’s colony about Kolesnikova’s request for medical help, the material said.
“I can only pray to God that he is alive that the authorities ignore my requests for meetings and letters. It is a terrible feeling of helplessness for a father,” said his father Alexander Kolesnikov by phone on October 14, as quoted by the. AP.
As you know, Kolesnikova was detained on September 8, 2020 at the Belarusian-Ukrainian border. According to the Belarusian Border Committee, he, together with Ivan Kravtsov and Anton Rodnenkov, tried to breach the border. Meanwhile, Kravtsov and Rodnenkov told a press conference in Kyiv that Kolesnikova tore up her passport and left the car during forced deportation.
At the beginning of September 2021, the court reportedly sentenced Kolesnikova to 11 years in prison.
