Russian weapons often contain electronic components of European origin. Therefore, EU countries should strengthen controls on companies that export critical elements to third countries.
The countries of the EU should start the fight against sanctions against the Russian Federation not from third countries, but from themselves, because Russian weapons still contain European components. EU High Representative Josep Borrell said this on Monday, October 14, Ukrinform reports.
It was learned that he made such a statement in a press conference following the meeting of the EU Council of Ministers for Foreign Affairs.
“Sanctions circumvention allows Russia to maintain its war machine. We are seeing progress in overcoming sanctions evasion, but more needs to be done. Western-style electronic equipment and components continue to are finding their way into Russian weapons and military equipment. When you do an autopsy Russian weapons, you will find Western electronic components in there, so, we must continue the fight against sanctions evasion and start this work at home,” Borrell emphasized.
He noted the need to strengthen control over companies that export critical elements to third countries.
The EU’s diplomacy chief said that during Monday’s EU Council, foreign ministers heard from the EU’s Special Representative for Sanctions, David O’Sullivan, and discussed ways to strengthen sanctions against the aggressor country and increase their effectiveness.
“We need more sanctions against Russia’s ‘shadow fleet’ and against Russia’s ability to export hydrocarbons. The number of ships that allow Russia to continue exporting oil beyond limit and beyond the price ceilings are increasing. Therefore, he (O’Sullivan – ed .) asked to consider proposals aimed at increasing the effectiveness of such a regime of sanctions,” emphasizing the high which is representative of the EU.
He recalled that last week the EU adopted a new legal regime for sanctions aimed at combating Russia’s hybrid actions against the EU, its member states and partner countries.
Earlier, the Main Intelligence Directorate reported that the Russian Federation had imported thousands of parts for its fighters, despite the sanctions.
