China’s intelligence gathering operations may employ up to 600,000 people. The West can’t fight them yet.
China created a huge army of spies numbering 600 thousand people. Operations are carried out decentralized in different directions, and Western countries do not have the resources to counter such a network. The Wall Street Journal writes about it on Monday, October 14.
According to the publication, China’s intelligence operations have surpassed the activities of the KGB during the Cold War. PRC operations vary in nature – from cyber attacks to scientific or industrial espionage.
It has been noted that for the West, the fight against Chinese spies is exacerbated by the fact that they conduct decentralized operations. Many departments and private companies are involved in them. The methods they use seem trivial because they operate largely autonomously.
Also, China, according to the FBI, has more hackers than the number of cyber personnel of the American department. FBI Director Christopher Wray claimed at the beginning of the year that China’s hacking program was higher than the hacking programs of other major states “combined.”
China’s intelligence and security operations could involve as many as 600,000 people, a source told the WSJ.
We remind you that a woman was recently arrested in Germany on suspicion of spying for China – she probably passed information about logistics at Leipzig airport.
China has previously used spy balloons as part of a broader surveillance program. In particular, Beijing has collected data on countries of strategic interest to it.
