Joe Biden plans to visit Germany on Friday next week. This was reported by the German publication Der Spiegel.
Meetings are planned with Chancellor Olaf Scholz and President Walter Steinmeier.
Instead of the state visit, which was planned for the end of this week and then canceled due to Hurricane Milton in the southern United States, a significantly shortened working visit is now planned, writes Reuters.
During the visit, there will not be a meeting of the contact group on Ukrainian defense issues in Ramstein at the level of heads of state and government, which was planned to be held on October 12, but decided not to be held after the cancellation of Biden’s visit.
According to Reuters, this is explained by the fact that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky this week made visits to the UK, Italy and Germany, where he met with the leadership of these countries. Previously, his visit was canceled due to a hurricane in the United States.
Biden’s visit to Berlin is a kind of farewell visit by the president before the upcoming elections. It was originally planned as an official state visit with an official banquet and other honorary meetings, but the program has now been significantly reduced. However, the now planned short visit will be devoted to the same political issues – the further actions of Ukraine’s Western allies and the war in the Middle East, writes Der Spiegel.
