There are no plans for power outages due to frost, which will arrive in Ukraine next week.
This was announced by Deputy Minister of Energy Nikolai Kolesnik.
The energy system is currently operating stably, and the predicted frosts will potentially not last long,” he said on air at the United News telethon.
The Department of Energy understands weather patterns and projected consumption. It is based on this data that the restoration campaign is being conducted, Kolesnik said.
Our plans are, if possible, to restore the maximum amount of equipment in order to maneuver and cover demand during the heating season. Of course, there remains the risk of constant shelling. At the same time, we have import issues. Currently, 1.7 GW of capacity is available. Intensive negotiations are ongoing with the EU and the EU Energy Association to increase this available capacity to 2.2 GW, Kolesnik noted.
Since October 2022, the Russians have carried out more than a thousand attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, which has affected the stability of the energy system.
