Passengers on Iranian flights are still allowed to carry their mobile phones on board.
Iran has banned passengers from carrying pagers and walkie-talkies on all flights following near-simultaneous attacks last month in Lebanon and Syria in which communications equipment exploded. A representative of Iran’s aviation department announced this on Saturday, October 12, in an interview with ISNA news agency.
Pagers, walkie-talkies and similar accessories may not be carried in either carry-on or checked baggage. Passengers are still allowed to bring mobile phones on board.
Emirates airline announced the same ban. The restrictions apply to all flights to, from or through Dubai. If found, the devices in question will be confiscated by the police. Lebanese civil aviation has also banned the carrying of walkie-talkies and pagers on aircraft.
Earlier in Lebanon, the communications equipment of Hezbollah members exploded simultaneously. According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, the explosions killed at least 37 people, including several children, and injured approximately three thousand more, many of them random civilians.
Hezbollah and Lebanese authorities blamed Israel for the attack. Israeli authorities did not directly comment on the incident, however, according to CNN, the explosions were the result of a joint operation by the Mossad intelligence service and the Israeli military.
