Germany transferred two air defense systems Iris-T SLM and Iris-T SLS to Ukraine over the past week.
Berlin plans to provide the Ukrainian military with two more anti-aircraft systems by the end of the year, as well as new infantry fighting vehicles, tanks and artillery ammunition.
The fact that Germany delivered to Ukraine an IRIS-T SLM medium-range battery and two IRIS-T SLS (short-range) launchers was announced on October 9 by the head of the situation center for Ukraine at the German Ministry of Defense, Christian Freuding, in an interview with RND.
The supply of the IRIS-T SLM battery was partially financed by Norway as part of the German initiative to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense.
The German government in September increased the volume of military assistance to Ukraine by approximately 400 million euros.
The money is planned to be spent on the purchase of military equipment and technology for the Ukrainian army, in particular air defense systems, drones and protective equipment.
In September, the German government provided Ukraine with a large package of military aid. It, in particular, includes 22 Leopard 1A5 tanks, as well as three Cheetah (Gepard) self-propelled anti-aircraft guns, various armored vehicles and special vehicles, UAVs, radar and ammunition.
