France will supply Ukraine with Mirage 2000 multirole fighters.
Before delivery, these aircraft will be equipped with new equipment, including protection against electronic warfare. The upgraded Mirages will be ready for delivery in the first half of 2025. This was stated by French Defense Minister Sebastian Lecornea, reports Sud Ouest.
According to him, the fighters are being modernized at the Cazeau base in Gironde. They will not only strengthen the electronic warfare system, but also equip it with air-to-ground combat capabilities.
But the most important aspect is the training of pilots and mechanics, which continues in Nans, the head of the French Ministry of Defense emphasized.
As you know, the Mirage 2000 is a fourth-generation French multi-role fighter that has been serving in many countries around the world for a decade. The aircraft was developed by Dassault in the 1970s. The Mirage is considered one of the most successful projects in the history of the French aviation industry.
This fighter can perform a wide range of missions from intercepting air targets to delivering precision strikes against ground targets.
Let us recall that back in September, Defense Minister Rustem Umerov said that Ukraine expects French Mirage-2000 fighters from its partners. In addition, Kyiv is negotiating two more types of military aircraft – the Swedish Saab JAS-39 Gripen fighters and the German-British Eurofighter Typhoon.
