The surveillance of the crew of a Polish merchant ship, which was supposed to sail from Brazil to Europe, made it possible to expose an attempt to smuggle several hundred kilograms of cocaine.
The crew of the bulk carrier of a large Polish merchant ship operator, Polska Żegluga Morska, discovered several hundred kilograms of cocaine on board. The discovery was made off the coast of Brazil when a bulk carrier was preparing to enter the port of San Luis. RMF24 reported this on Monday, October 7.
“Unidentified people, who appeared to approach the ship in a small boat and boarded stealthily without being noticed, hid the cargo in a sealed technical compartment, which helped to detect the smuggling attempt,” explained the spokesperson of Polska Żegluga Morska.
He noted that the crew regularly checked the seals on the doors, so when during such a regular procedure they were torn, the captain was immediately informed about it, and he – the local police. He reported the presence of suspicious foreign cargo on the ship.
Law enforcement officials who arrived at the scene found that the compartment contained cocaine weighing several hundred kilograms – in total they found more than ten packages weighing 40 kilograms each.
An investigation into the smuggling case has been launched.
“Drug cartels are increasingly using commercial vessels to transport their goods,” said a Polish company representative.
We remind you that earlier law enforcement officials conducted large-scale special operations to block the distribution channels of weapons, ammunition and narcotic drugs.
It was previously reported that thousands of air defense spare parts were found in underground warehouses. They are among the top management of a local company that sells special equipment for missiles, artillery weapons and armored vehicles.
