Using a substitute phone number – “vishing”, scammers present themselves as security officers of banking institutions.
Law enforcement officials exposed the organizer and three accomplices who set up the work of a fraudulent call center in the temporarily occupied territory. The Office of the Prosecutor General reported this on Monday, October 7.
According to the investigation, the suspects established the operation of a fraudulent call center in the temporarily occupied territory of the Donetsk region.
They swindle victims of money through phone calls. Using a substitute phone number – “vishing”, scammers present themselves as security officers of banking institutions.
Talking to the victims, the scammers reported suspicious financial transactions on their bank cards.
Under the guise of qualified assistance, the suspects gave instructions and directions to citizens, as a result of which they received full access to their online banking. Subsequently, the funds are transferred to unauthorized persons, called “drops,” and cashed out.
Currently, 24 victims have been identified who suffered damages totaling at least 3 million hryvnias. All victims are citizens of Ukraine.
During the search of the residences of the suspects, mobile phones, SIM cards, bank cards, rough notes and documentation were confiscated.
Earlier, Ukrainian and European law enforcement officials jointly liquidated an international fraudulent call center.
We remind you that in Odessa, law enforcement officers liquidated a fraudulent call center, whose participants, under the guise of an international investment company, deceived the citizens of Ukraine and foreigners.
