The Russian Marine Corps suffered significant losses in the battles for Ugledar, Donetsk region.
During the year of fighting, the elite detachments of the Russian marines lost four times more personnel near Ugledar than during the 10 years of the war in Chechnya. Here alone, at least 211 Marines from the 155th Marine Brigade were killed and another 42 were missing. Among the dead are 19 officers, including battalion commander Tsiren Lubsanov. The BBC reported this.
Ugledar was also stormed by marines of the 40th brigade of “black berets” from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. This unit lost 72 soldiers and officers.
It is noted that the serious losses of the “black berets” can be evidenced by the fact that the “Storm Z” units, which were formed from Russian prisoners, began to be assigned to the 155th and 40th brigades.
The BBC writes that the most intense and bloody battles for the city were in the fall of 2022 and winter of 2023. It was then that these Marines, supported by armored vehicles, stormed the city. Motorized rifle formations made up of mobilized and volunteers also took part in the offensive.
Let us remind you that Ugledar held the defense against Russian invaders for more than two years. However, last week, members of the 72nd Brigade began to withdraw from the city as supply lines were cut off. On October 2, the OSUV “Khortitsa” confirmed the withdrawal of units from Vugledar in order to preserve personnel and military equipment.
